To Our Students:
At MTI, we share in your dreams of success and we take our responsibility in helping you reach your goals very seriously. One of the realities that we all face is an employment market that is constantly shifting and changing. Because of this, we believe that it is important for us to adjust to market conditions accordingly and to share this information with our students.
Currently, the number of candidates competing for phlebotomy job and externship opportunities is on the rise. In light of this trend, we’d like to assure you that we have a dedicated responsibility to meeting the needs of our existing students before accepting additional students into the program. In support of this, we are curtailing the enrollment of new students into the phlebotomy program until further notice.
For our existing students:
The phlebotomy program continues to be available to you with no changes to the requirements. We are committed to seeing that every eligible phlebotomy student receives a quality education and is placed in an externship site.
For students entering the program after May 12:
During the MO186 Laboratory Assisting II class, students must apply to advance to the Phlebotomy program. Due to the limited availability of externship site locations, advancement will be determined by an evaluation of the student’s transcript, GPA, attendance, clinical skills and other factors. To be eligible for consideration, students are expected to maintain a minimum 3.5 GPA and 90% attendance in the Medical Assistant program.
To qualify for the phlebotomy externship, students must earn an “A” in the PH100 Phlebotomy class and must maintain a minimum of 90% attendance. Some externship sites require a higher rate of attendance in order to be eligible.
The phlebotomy externship consists of the following: 40 to 160 hours of instruction (depending on the site), and a minimum of 50 successful draws. Failure to complete a phlebotomy externship will render the student ineligible for state certification and licensure as a phlebotomist.
Please be sure to be quiet inside the buildings, even if you are on a break. There are always students studying or in class and we need to make sure people have a great learning environment. Please take phone calls and loud discussions outside or to the student lounge. Thank you for your consideration.
There is a suggestion box outside of room 112 & the forms are located there. There is also a suggestion box in the "Student Information, Resources, Policies and Procedures area of Moodle. Check it out: http://elearning.mticollege.edu/course/view.php?id=1121
All of the suggestions are reviewed.
If you have not fulfilled your Community Service requirement & are looking for a way to do so here on campus, contact the Medical department.
Ever have one of those days where nothing seems to go your way? Then someone says something or does something that brightens everything up. The Student Daymaker is a fantastic way of saying something that could do just that. It is an excellent tool to help build each other up, by letting others know they are valued and appreciated. If there is something you would like to express, the forms can be picked up from your Dean or in the Student Support Center. Help make someone’s day with a Daymaker!
