Important Changes to the Attendance Policy

Attendance is important for student success. All classes, beginning on or after May 31, 2016, will be adhering to this updated attendance policy:

Attendance Policy (rev 4/2016)

Regular student attendance is essential in order to successfully accomplish all program outcomes.  100% class attendance is expected of all MTI students.  We understand that emergencies and illness may occur; however students who do not maintain the minimum required attendance of 80% in any class will be dropped from that class regardless of academic progress. Additionally, students are expected to arrive on-time and remain in class until the instructor dismisses them.

The following applies to all students:

  • Students must attend a minimum of 50% of the class period in order to receive attendance credit for the class. Students attending less than 50% of the period will be marked absent.
  • Students leaving before the instructor has dismissed them will have their attendance records marked as an early departure.
  • One period of absence will be recorded for every three early departure marks. Once a student reaches the maximum number of allowable absences, any subsequent early departures, or absences will result in the student being dropped from the class.

Students dropped from classes as a result of absences or early departure marks will receive an F grade if the students are dropped after the second week of class. Dropped classes must be retaken for a passing grade and students will be responsible for purchasing any books or materials that were not included as part of the original class. Additional tuition costs will be imposed on students with numerous class restart requests. Students who are not in attendance for more than 14 days, may have their enrollment terminated.
